Citrus (Volume 10) – Family Matters

Sara and Nina visit Yuzu and convince her to talk about Mei. That gives her enough confidence to talk to her mother, who reassures her. Maybe, there’s a way for Mei to inherit the school and stay with Yuzu!
Citrus (Volume 10) – Family Matters
What happened?
Sara and Nina were coming to Tokyo on short notice and hoped that they could stay with Yuzu. Of course, they were surprised to learn that Mei would not be there. Then, they saw Yuzu’s sadness with their own eyes and convinced her to talk about Mei. Yuzu let it all out and felt better for doing so. The next day, Yuzu asked to speak with her mother. When they finally got the chance, Yuzu told her everything about her and Mei. Her mother reassured her and told her she wouldn’t regret doing something that was her choice. They contacted Mei’s father to see if he could help.
Then, Yuzu got in touch with Harumi to ask for her help. Everyone quickly came to her aid. All of the people Yuzu had touched with her life and energy were on her side, ready to help her get Mei back. However, they received some terrible news. Momokino called to tell Yuzu that Mei had put in the form to leave the school. That meant she was planning on getting married imminently. They had to find out where she was. After no luck, Matsuri called the boss of the cafe, hoping to utilise his network. She discovered that he was with the Aihara family currently. Matsuri knew where they were.

Shiraho used her family to get transportation, but they soon got stuck in a traffic jam. That’s when Harumi contacted her older sister who was waiting with Maruta on motorbikes for just an occasion like this one. They raced to their location, but they could only take two people. Harumi told Yuzu to take Matsuri, she would be of more use now. When they found the manager’s house, Matsuri buzzed the intercom and told them they were being pursued by a creepy man. She then told the lady of the house that they wanted to contact the Aihara school to let them know they were being targeted. She ran to fetch Mei’s grandfather.
That was Yuzu’s chance, she took off, running the halls in search of Mei. She found her just as she was tackled to the ground by one of the maids. The manager asked to be able to talk to Yuzu in private. Yuzu apologised to him for her interruption but she needed to talk to Mei. However, Mei didn’t want to talk. He wanted Mei to listen to Yuzu, inspired by her determination. Yuzu told Mei that everyone could be happy and that she didn’t have to sacrifice herself, because then no one would be happy. Mei tried to tell Yuzu that she hated her, but Yuzu just hugged her and removed the necklace with the ring on. Then, she asked Mei to marry her.

What did you think?
Now that is what you call a thoroughly satisfying ending. It wasn’t just that we got the happily ever after that this story deserved. It was the way it came together. Everyone that had been touched by Yuzu came to her aid. Everyone understood what this meant to Yuzu and Mei. It was amazing watching it all unfold, especially Mitsuko and her motorbike coming to the rescue. Even Matsuri stepped up like no one else to help out her oldest friend.
I read this volume in almost no time at all. I could not put it down and found myself flicking through pages at an incredible rate, then bouncing back and flicking through once more. It was captivating. Everything came together perfectly and delivered the response to the massive mood suck that was the end of the last volume.
I’ll admit that I had not heard much about this series other than some people were appalled by it, but they obviously didn’t read it all the way through. This is a fantastic story that builds on itself over time, getting stronger and stronger. I’ve enjoyed it from the beginning, but the ending has elevated my evaluation of it by no end. I’m going to attempt to put together my thoughts on the season as a whole and then, I’m diving into the anime. I need more of this.
