Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen (Episode 5) – Things Are Gonna Get Real Flashy!
Tengen tracked down Hinatsuru who had been poisoned. She told him to get to the fight and that she would be fine. Would he make it Tanjiro in time or was there somewhere else he’d be needed?
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen (Episode 5) – Things Are Gonna Get Real Flashy!
What happened?
Hinatsuru confirmed that she found the demon but it was suspicious of her so she poisoned herself in order to escape, but Daki had given her a belt that was spying on her so she couldn’t report back to Tengen. He gave her the antidote and told her to rest. As soon as she was able, she was to leave the town completely. She told him to get back into the fight, the others needed him.
Tanjiro struggled against Daki. He even chipped his sword which would be bad news when Haganezuka found out. However, his problem wasn’t the sword but his technique. He’d come to understand that water technique was not suited to his body. His body was built for the hinokami kagura, but it put so much strain on him that it was exhausting. However, he’d been training for it. There weren’t any other options, anyhow.
Inosuke found a hole in the ground that was big enough for his head to fit in, but not his shoulders. Luckily, he can dislocate all of his joints, so he did and dived in. At the other end, he found Daki’s belt with all of the people she’d stored for later. When she realised he was there, she ordered it to catch Inosuke as he was beautiful, but it could eat the others for strength. As Inosuke fought, he freed Zenitsu, Makio and Suma. It looked like he was going to need all the help he could get.
What did you think?
I’d forgotten how much Demon Slayer likes to break up the action with pointless flashbacks. It’s so frustrating when it’s just getting going to suddenly find yourself pulled out of the battle to watch Tanjiro training. The worst thing with that was that he presented the idea that his body couldn’t handle multiple attacks using hinokami kagura and showed us what it did to him before. Then, he revealed that he’d trained for it so it wasn’t a problem. Why bring it up as a problem if it isn’t? That was some lazy development.
Even the flashback to Tengen’s wives when he told them to protect themselves over all others really didn’t need to be there. At least, that happened after the action. And I’m saying this as someone that would watch an entire show about Tengen’s wives…
Anyhow, I did enjoy the episode and even had a realisation. I now know for certain who my favourite character is in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba! Are you ready for this?
What have you learnt?
It’s taken me a while to fully notice it, but Inosuke is my guy. I feel like we’ve seen so much character development for him, but it’s been incredibly subtle. No flashy arcs or flashbacks for Inosuke. He just gets on with it and grows independently. The fact that he was able to use discretion in his house to sneak around was massive and when he realised it was time to act, he did. No doubts, no worries. Inosuke gets on with it.
He also seems to have the best insight oddly. For example, he commented that maybe Zenitsu should be asleep all the time! Who hasn’t had that thought? Anyhow, character development doesn’t need to be in your face like Tanjiro’s fake concern so that we can see him training and explain how he can suddenly do things. It can be subtle and gradual as Inosuke has shown us. I can’t wait to see how far he goes.
