Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Episode 10) – Together Forever
Tanjiro may have mortally wounded the demon with eyes in his hands, but he’s not going to go down meekly. Meanwhile, Nezuko steps back into battle against Susamaru!
What did you watch?
Episode 10 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba followed on immediately after episode 9. This is definitely a series that loves a good cliffhanger. My immediate concern is for my new demon girl Susamaru. She’s clearly on the wrong side and I’m not that optimistic that she’ll get through this episode unscathed. Best I can hope for is that she manages to run away, although Kibutsuji probably wouldn’t like that either…
What happened?
At the end of the last episode, Tanjiro had used multiple techniques together and the force of the arrows created by the demon, Yahaba. Then with this new powerful attack, Tanjiro was able to behead Yahaba. That’s great right? Well, it would be if death was instant, but unluckily for Tanjiro, Yahaba wasn’t done. He unleashed a torrent of attacks all at once, aimed at throwing Tanjiro back and forth, over and over again.
It took everything Tanjiro had to break the momentum of each attack with an attack of his own. Once Yahaba had crumbled away, the attacks stopped and Tanjiro fell to the ground, barely able to hold his sword any longer. Meanwhile, Yushiro and Susamaru continued to fight and just when it looked like Yushiro might lose his head once more, Nezuko jumped in and fired the Temari back at Susamaru. They appeared to be at a stalemate until Lady Tamayo stepped in…
What did you think?
I thought this episode was awesome but less for the action and more for what was revealed. Lady Tamayo confronted Susamaru to warn her about Kibutsuji. Maybe it was all a taunt and a trap to force Susamaru to utter his name and unleash the blood curse. It’s possible, but then it makes sense that Kibutsuji wouldn’t want the demons he created to gang up on him.
So, speaking of the curse… that was brutal and such a horrible way for Susamaru to leave the series. Even worse when she was just a puddle of mush and you hear this little girls voice asking Tanjiro to give her the Temari! This show really makes you care about the villains. In that sense, it reminds of Akame ga Kill, although we’ve not had an extended period of bonding with any of the demons except Nezuko and she’s not evil.
I also thought it interesting the Lady Tamayo was not affected by the curse when she mentioned Kibutsuji. There’s still a lot more to be revealed in this series and I can’t wait to get to the bottom of it all.
What was your favourite moment?
That will be the moment that Nezuko rejoined the fight. In the last episode, she had lost her lower leg while trying to kick one of Susamaru’s Temaris, but after a little regenerative healing medicine from Tamayo, Nezuko powered up and was not only able to kick the Temari, but she managed to overpower Susamaru with one. I said that there’s a lot more to be revealed and I think Nezuko’s transformation is one of those things. I still believe that it was an accident and Kibutsuji had not planned on changing her, or that it was someone else pretending to be Kibutsuji…
What was your least favourite moment?
That was seeing three demonic hands burst out of Susamaru’s body and then rip her to shreds. No, scratch that. It was the time afterwards when Tanjiro crawled towards the pile of mush and gave her back her Temari. It was a brutal way to go and once more, the writers turn the screw by giving her dying form the voice of a child that just wanted her ball back…
Who was your favourite character?
I’m kind of torn between Tanjiro and Nezuko for this episode. Both endured a tough fight, although I feel like Tanjiro just gets ahead. Part of that is that he actually defeated a demon, even if it turned out that neither was part of the Twelve Kizuki (Twelve Demon Moons) as they believed. More manipulation by Kibutsuji. That guy just doesn’t seem to give a damn about anybody but himself! Also, there was the moment that Tanjiro picked up his sword with his mouth and all I could think was that this was a precursor to some Three-sword style fighting…
Who was your least favourite character?
He wasn’t even in the episode but it has to be Kibutsuji for the way he lied to Susamaru and Yahaba, sent them into a battle that he wasn’t prepared to do himself. Is he worried about Tanjiro? Or maybe the earrings? Anyhow, he’s also responsible for the death of Susamaru, which is unforgivable.
Would you like some more?
Oh, please! I love this series and am more than invested in the story and the characters at this point. Much like Tanjiro and Nezuko, me and Demon Slayer will be together forever… It also looks like we’ll get to see a new addition to Tanjiro’s group with the cowardly demon slayer. I thought the scene at the end of the episode that managed to leave Tanjiro’s crow with a shocked expression, something I didn’t think a crow could pull off, was hilarious and bodes well.

Yes, the revelations in this episode were awesome. But they do raise a lot more questions. How did Lady Tamayo break free from the curse and how is she turning humans? We could assume that she might not be the only one capable of that. And then there’s Nezuko that keeps surprising everyone during every fight. I loved this episode, and I can’t wait until we learn more about these things.
Definitely. So many questions. I still feel like the Demon Slayer Corps leader is going to turn out to be a demon or have a close tie to Kibutsuji. I’m also wondering why Nezuko needs to keep the bit in place. Is it because she’s still a young demon and may lose control quicker?
I enjoyed this episode…a lot! I always love how Nezuko shows her fearless side. She is always good, and she is a lot more surprising than Tanjiro.
Absolutely, Nezuko is a gem. Always ready to fight for others regardless of how strong her opponent. They’re similar in that respect but Tanjiro has had all the training.
