Chainsaw Man (Episode 9) – From Kyoto

The Ghost Devil’s last act is to fire up Denji’s chainsaws. He bursts back to life and attacks. Will it be enough though? Is there any hope at all for the Public Safety Bureau? Hopefully, there were some survivors!
Chainsaw Man (Episode 9) – From Kyoto
What happened?
Denji is fired up and can’t believe his luck in finding two people that are clearly the bad guys standing before him. Now, he can let loose and not worry about there being any repercussions. Swords and chainsaws clashed as the battle raged on. Then, some backup arrived for the bad guys. They pointed their guns at Denji and started to shoot. Denji fought back and took one hostage, however, that didn’t go quite to plan. The next thing he knew, he and his hostage had been sliced in two…
On the train to Kyoto, the attackers were about to split up and hide among the civilians. However, as they turned to run they found Makima standing before them. The train stopped in Kyoto and people ran off the train screaming and panicking. Makima stepped off calmly and explained what had happened on the train. Then, she gave some orders for some death-row convicts to be brought to the shrine with the highest altitude.
The bad guys were about to load Denji’s torso into their van when one of the guys suddenly looked panicked. Then, in a flash of gore, he exploded into nothing but blood. Makima crouched down in front of the next death-row inmate and told him to repeat a name. He did. She mashed her hands together and another attacker back in Tokyo met the same fate. Makima repeated the process until all the inmates were dead, along with the person they named. Only two remained alive, the Yukaza boss’ grandson and the girl that controlled the Snake Devil. They were about to grab Denji and run when Kobeni arrived and she was pissed off!

What did you think?
Holy shit! This episode must have been two minutes long at best… My heart is racing. Things started off pretty normal with Denji attacking the guy with the swords who appeared to be the same as him – not a devil and not a human. That was exciting, but it was when we saw Makima on the train that this episode came to life. She is brilliantly creepy and evil as hell. There’s no way she’s not the real villain in this series. Her powers are terrifying, but that’s nothing compared to that scene at the end when she was welcomed back to Tokyo.
Madoka reported what had happened and that all of the Public Safety Bureau was now being merged with the fourth division and that she was in charge. Then, he handed in his resignation letter. He figured it was quit or die, so he quit. Then, he had the audacity to ask Makima how much of what happened she had expected. She told him that she couldn’t reveal information like that to a private citizen. Now, I can’t help but think that she was behind it and was planning on taking control of everything. Another thing that was dropped in causally was that the non-humans were the only survivors. Does that mean Kobeni is not human too? Argh! Even more questions. This series just upped its game considerably.

There’s no shortage of intensity here and plenty of wheels within wheels to speculate about.
When I watched this episode this was as far as I had gotten in the manga too so it was all new and it really didn’t disappoint.
