Dr. Stone (Episode 8) – Stone Road

Dr. Stone Title

In order to win over the villagers, Senku plans on rediscovering antibiotics to save the priestess who is sick. So far, he’s got Chrome and Kohaku on his side, but he’s going to need more manpower to pull this off!

What did you watch?

So, this is episode 8 of Dr. Stone. Senku parted ways with Taiju and Yuzuriha a couple of episodes back and has now allied with Kohaku and Chrome as he attempts to create a nation of science. It’s not going to be easy, but with his new friends, he should be able to achieve something, right? Get ready for the spoilers. They’re almost here!

Dr Stone Episode 8 Kohaku and Chrome to Help Senku

What happened?

Senku explained that there were two ways to make antibiotics, one involves mould and the other uses stone. The mould method would require a lot of waiting around and there’s a chance they wouldn’t get any of the good stuff. With stone, they would definitely make some, but the process is harder. They opt for stone and the first task is to make iron. Luckily, Chrome has some magnetic rock that they can use to find iron sand in the river.

They are approached by a child with a pumpkin husk on his head who offers to help. When they are unable to forge the black sand into iron, Senku realizes that they need more power and looks for a way to convince the villagers to help. Food appears to be a continuing concern for them, so Senku goes about creating Ramen.

What did you think?

Once again, I loved it. This episode was great. There was lots of fun science and interesting ideas and challenges for Senku to overcome. I’m starting to think that the entire Taiju/Tsukasa story was completely unnecessary. Sure, there were some good parts, but had Senku woken up and then found the village anyhow we’d be at the same point, which, if I’m honest, has been the most entertaining part of the show yet.

What was your favourite moment?

Watching them trying to get the furnace to the right temperature was hilarious. The faces they made as they frantically tried to get enough oxygen into the flames were awesome. Then, when they all looked exhausted and ready to explode, Senku said they only had to keep it up for another twenty to thirty hours! Needless to say, their efforts did not yield the results they were hoping for. Failing is fine. It’s part of the process. Now, Senku will need to adjust his plan, which he does.

What was your least favourite moment?

I mentioned in the last episode how I would have liked to have seen a little of Taiju and Yuzuriha, but now, I’m not that bothered. They were nice characters, but the whole village arc is far more interesting. To prove that, I am, once more struggling to find a least favourite moment. Maybe, it was the brief view of the village elder complaining about how Kohaku had brought a stranger to the village, even after he’d disowned her! Charming!

Who was your favourite character?

I like Chrome and Senku. Even Suika was fun. But, Kohaku is just the greatest. These posts are in danger of becoming a gallery dedicated to Kohaku and I’m not even remotely sorry. She’s a warrior with the strength and stamina to replace Taiju. On top of that, she’s far more pleasing on the eye… at least for me anyhow.

Who was your least favourite character?

It’s hard to pick one again as outside of the main four of Senku, Kohaku, Chrome, and Suika, there wasn’t really much of anyone. The village leader looks like he’s going to be a problem, but I’m sure Senku will change that when he develops the antibiotics that save the priestess. He’s going to have to put in the effort first, mind you.

Would you like some more?

Absolutely. I loved the whole Ramen section, which was made even funnier that they loved his Ramen, but to Senku it didn’t taste as good as it should. Then to put together a Ramen cart to win over the villagers was hilarious. This series has really upped its game over the last couple of episodes and I’m genuinely quite excited to see what happens next.

There’s nothing not to like! It’s like she’s designed to be a stone-age goddess. Ancient Greek goddesses seethe at the very thought of her. For good reason, too!

Seriously, I’ve liked her since she didn’t even hesitate to attack Tsukasa. She even drove him back a few steps, and even Taiju couldn’t do that!

    • She’s fearless, which considering the size difference and given her skills as a fighter she would have been able to tell what she was up against, was incredible.

Designed to be… She IS a stone-age goddess and I’m ready to build her a temple!
