Dr. Stone: Stone Wars (Episode 2) – Hot Line

Gen heads off with Chrome and Magma to deliver the phone to Taiju and Yuzuriha, but will Senku be able to fool Homura for long with his fake explosions? If not, he’s bound to have another plan… and another… and another!
What happened?
Homura hurried to investigate the explosive sounds. If Senku has developed explosives it would be terrible news for Tsukasa. Of course, this forced her to reveal her location and as soon as she did so, Kohaku was on her. However, both knew they were evenly matched. That’s when Senku unleashed his surprise weapon – a flare. With it, he caught her. It looked like the end for Homura, but then she remembered who was holding her down…
She quickly broke free and got to a safe distance. Once there, she scanned the faces involved and quickly determined that Gen, Chrome, and Magma were missing. Sure, Chrome and Magma could have been in the caves, but why would they need Gen. She worked out what they were up to and hurried off in pursuit. Luckily, although there was nothing lucky about it, Senku had placed tungsten powder on Homura which meant they could track her with a black light.
Senku then demonstrated just how effective communications can be in warfare, by contacting Gen and luring Homura into a trap. With that taken care of, Gen, Chrome, and Magma continued towards Tsukasa’s kingdom and placed the cell phone at the site of Senku’s grave. When Taiju and Yuzuriha next visited the grave, they found the hidden device and phoned an old friend!

What did you think?
There was a lot to enjoy with this episode, although it did breeze over a number of inventions. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the science side of things, but I also can’t fault the action. It’s great to see Kohaku doing what she does best, and in Homura, she was the perfect opponent to push her to her limits.
I also enjoyed the way they used their communications devices to change the nature of the pursuit. It just goes to show how important a tool that will be in the war, regardless of whether they are able to convince Tsukasa’s side that the Americans are coming to save everyone.
Finally, seeing Taiju and Yuzuriha getting all emotional about hearing Senku’s voice again was a great moment. Ironically, the first season really came into its own when they left, but it sure was nice to have them back again. Even Senku almost shed a tear.

What have you learnt?
Who would have thought a bunch of stone statues would create such an interesting situation from a morality standpoint? As they are, they are nothing more than stone. If you break them, all you will have is stone fragments. It’s not like the stone is covering something organic. So, surely destroying them shouldn’t be an issue. As Gen stated, it would be the quickest and easiest way to deliver a hefty blow to Tsukasa’s plans.
However, even Gen couldn’t allow Magma to go through with it. Those people hadn’t necessarily done anything wrong. If Tsukasa was to revive them, he would surely tell them what he felt he needed to say to get them onto his side. Of course, there aren’t many that would stand against him. It reminds me of the scene in Goblin Slayer, where he kills the goblin children because he knows they will become adult goblins and continue the cycle of violence. But will they? That’s the question and I don’t know if there’s an easy answer.
What if one of these statues, once revived, kills someone you love? How will you feel for not taking the opportunity when you had the chance? On a side note, had they destroyed the statues, Tsukasa would have easily been able to use that to further enrage his faction and drive them against Senku even more. Maybe, the answer was not to destroy them, but to take the statues with them and change their fate!
