My Dress-Up Darling (Volume 13) – Princess!!
What happened?
It was finally Comiket. Everything that they had worked towards was now in place. Haniel strode into the area with Wakana at her side. Her hair fluttered in the wind. Eyes were already starting to turn towards her. Marin, however, was unaware as she was just blown away by the sheer size of Comiket, the number of cosplayers, and the variety of costumes. In order to get the perfect pictures, they moved to a quieter area of the field and began setting up. However, when they turned around to look for their friends, they noticed a group of people standing in a line behind them. They were waiting to get a picture of Haniel.
Worried that it would take too long for each of the photographers to take pictures one at a time, Marin suggested that they have a circle shoot, where the photographers would make a circle around her and she would then turn to face each of them. It sounded like a great idea, but word seemed to spread and more and more people came to see Haniel. To make everything that much more mysterious, most cosplayers announce who they will cosplay at the conventions and they have a board saying who they are with their social details. Marin had not done any of this. No one knew who she was or even that anyone was coming as Haniel.
Wakana watched on as Marin continued to nail the pose. All of their hard work had come to fruition. He couldn’t believe the size of the circle and it continued to grow. Their friends arrived, with Akira incredibly excited to see her Princess cosplaying in the flesh. They too were stunned at the size of the circle shoot, but the photographers allowed them to move through the crowd and sit at the front. Then, Marin came over and smiled at them. That was as much as Akira could handle. She screamed, “Princess” and began to cry. Then, everyone started to call her Princess. The crowd was still growing as word spread. Just how far was this going to go.

It’s been far too long since I read a volume of My Dress-up Darling. I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed to here that the series was abruptly ended, and while I haven’t read anything about what happens, I can’t help but feel like it’s gone too soon. I just hope that it’s not due to ill health or anyone involved. Anyhow, this volume was utterly captivating. The images of Marin as Haniel were simply breath-taking. I couldn’t look away and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Everyone’s reactions to the cosplay were incredible too, not least the creator of the manga that she comes from.
It was great to see that the costume was getting a lot of praise too. Wakana is more of a supporting role when it comes to the final day, despite doing most of the work before hand. I hope that he noticed that people were praising his work. Somehow, I doubt he’s seen the comments online from the mangaka so that should be interesting when he finds out. Of course, it was very cool to see an agent give Marin her card and offer to represent her as a professional cosplayer. They definitely need to get their act together with the social side of things. That way, Wakana will get the recognition too.
Volume 14 is set to come out in October, but there’s no details on the pre-order of volume 15 which is supposed to be the final volume. I really hope the ending isn’t rushed and makes sense. Marin and Wakana deserve that much. I have loved this series and these characters. I’d hate for things to end on a less than satisfactory note.
