My Dress-Up Darling (Volume 7) – Is This Your First Time at a Host Club, Princess?

Are Marin and Gojo dating? That’s what everyone wants to know! They’re not, although Marin is a little concerned about how quickly Gojo denied it. Does he not like her the way she likes him? This could get awkward!
My Dress-Up Darling (Volume 7) – Is This Your First Time at a Host Club, Princess?
What happened?
After cleaning the drink he spat all over his costume, Gojo came out of the bathroom to find two guys leaning over Marin. They were talking about something but Marin didn’t seem that interested. That was when he realised they must be hitting on her, so he ran in and told them that he would take Marin’s place. He may not be as pretty, but he would try his hardest. Everyone started laughing… well, not the guy he was speaking to. However, he wasn’t hitting on her. The guys were a couple of stylists from her salon and they were trying to warn her about wearing something so revealing when it’s so cold. She has jobs coming up and she can’t get sick. Gojo was mortified that he screwed up, but he did exactly what Marin needed. He stood up for her. Maybe, he did have feelings for her, too!
Unfortunately, their advice was not unwarranted as Marin missed the next day of school because she was sick. Gojo, worried about her living alone and having no one to help, said he was sick and left for the day, buying supplies on the way to Marin’s house. There, he helped her get to the shower, found her some clothes, fed her, and gave her medicine. However, just as he was about to leave, Marin’s friends came over to check on her. Gojo hid on the balcony where it was cold and windy. He hoped that he wouldn’t get sick, too. He did!
Gojo and Marin’s class had decided to do Russian Roulette Takoyaki for the school cultural festival. They soon learned that it was a contest and everyone got extra fired up. Then, they learned that there was a beauty pageant side of things, so the class all nominated Marin. She wasn’t sure about it until she learned that girls had to dress as guys and guys as girls. Now, she was fired up! Marin was going to cosplay Rei-sama from PrezHost and Gojo would make the costume. However, they weren’t allowed to work on the stuff in their own time and Gojo didn’t want to let the class down by not doing any of the heavy lifting too. When he went to the class after sending Marin to buy supplies on her own, he soon learned that they didn’t need him. They were counting on him to make the costume. They believed in him!

What did you think?
At the end of the last book, there was a teaser for this volume that showed Marin reacting to Gojo denying they were a couple so quickly and so vehemently. Of course, she’d never told him how she felt, at least while he was awake, but that still hurt. I was really worried that this volume would spend a bit of time dragging out the drama and we would see Marin far too sad for far too long. Thankfully, that lasted four pages, which was almost too long, before Gojo stepped in to save her. I was so happy that we could go back to the regular routine, and even more so when she planted a sneaky kiss on the side of his bunny head. These two are perfect for one another.
Then, we had another situation where I was worried things were going to take us off course. Gojo didn’t have time to make Marin’s Rei-sama costume because the teacher had said that the guys had to help with the manual labour. He arrived at the class and was surprised to find that they didn’t want him there. His thoughts went to a dark place for a second before they told him they thought he was making the costume and that they had no chance without him. We’re here to see Marin wear the costumes and Gojo make the costumes. Taking that away from us would have been criminal. I also love the endless positive messages that this series delivers. We started where Gojo felt like he didn’t fit in and now, everyone knows what he does and they’ve accepted him for that. His journey has been fantastic. Marin has been like a gorgeous fairy godmother to him.
