Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 15) – Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 1 –
What happened?
Aware that Toudou would target the group instead of the curse, Maki had a plan in place. Itadori would take on Toudou, leaving the others to continue on the mission to find the curse. So, when Toudou showed up, Itadori charged straight into the fight as the others ran off.
Toudou seemed to enjoy the initial attack, but then landed a blow of his own, sending Itadori flying. When he had stopped rolling, Itadori tried to get up but his arms were aching. That gave Toudou the chance to catch up and stomp on Itadori’s face until he was unconscious.
Of course, Itadori wasn’t done and climbed to his feet. Toudou was impressed and decided to ask Itadori what his type was. It seemed like an odd time to ask something like that, but Itadori played along. He said he liked tall women with a big bum kind of like Jennifer Lawrence. Toudou couldn’t believe it. A version of his life with Itadori flashed before his eyes where they were best friends!

So, when the other members of the Kyoto school showed up to try to kill Itadori, Toudou was furious. He warned them to stay away. They reluctantly left but were soon met with the other students from Tokyo. Fushiguru asked Kamo if they were planning on killing Itadori. Kamo seemed less than concerned that they knew, but that fight wasn’t over either.
Toudou and Itadori exchanged blows with Toudou getting more and more impressed as the fight went on. However, after a while, he became annoyed that Itadori kept using the same attack. How was his best friend going to get any stronger if he didn’t grow?
That was enough to push Itadori to increase his cursed energy. This fight was just getting started.

What did you think?
I knew that Itadori would mention someone that Toudou would approve of, but that didn’t make it any less funny. The fact that Toudou then played out an elaborate memory where the two were best friends just took it to the next level. This episode had a lot of action, but it was also hilarious.
I mentioned in the last episode that Gojou was chaotic good, well, I feel like Toudou is chaotic neutral. That gives him the freedom to do as he pleases. He’s also got a screw loose somewhere, but it was funny so I don’t even care. I’m just looking forward to the next episode.

What have you learnt?
An event like this is a good way to introduce more characters and let us see what they’re capable of and how they with the existing characters. We briefly saw Miwa when Gojou gave Gakuganji a piece of his mind and she seemed like a fun character then. Seeing how different she is to some of the Kyoto students makes for an interesting dynamic.
We saw her reluctance to kill Itadori in the previous episode and she showed more of that here. However, giving her the drive to make money as her family is poor may seem like a simple motivating factor, but it’s probably one that a lot of people can identify with. Not every character wants to be the hero that saves the world. As with most things, variety is important.
