Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 14) – Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 0 –
It’s time for the inter-school competition with the Kyoto branch, which means Itadori can finally return from the dead! How will his friends take the news? How will his enemies take the news? I can’t imagine everyone will be happy!
Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 14) – Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 0 –
What happened?
After the recent events, Nanami and Gojou catch up to discuss Itadori’s future. Gojou didn’t want Itadori’s experience to be quite so tough, but at the same time, it helped to put his worries at ease. He’s confident that Itadori won’t be killed easily, even by those within the Jujutsu system that seek to do so.
All that’s left is to reveal to the others that Itadori is still alive. It’s a tricky thing to do and requires a certain amount of tact. Don’t worry as Gojou has the perfect plan. Itadori just needs to do as he says.
Meanwhile, Fushiguru, Nobara, and the others are waiting for the Kyoto team to arrive. Well, Nobara thought they were going to Kyoto so was pretty disappointed that she would have to stay here. After the Kyoto team arrived and the groups exchanged glares, Gojou came running up with a cart with a metal box on it. He gave all the Kyoto students a gift from his travels, but not the teacher. Then he opened the box to reveal Itadori!
It was, without a doubt, the least tactful way to tell them that their friend wasn’t dead. Even the Kyoto team didn’t seem to care thanks to the gifts that Gojou gave them. The only person that really took offence was Kyoto principal, Gakuganji who was furious and not just because it was Gojou doing the reveal.
After the rules of the first event were discussed, the teams returned to their bases to discuss tactics. Itadori had some catching up to do as he’d not met Maki, Toge, or Panda. He had lots of questions but there was little time for answers. The more important thing was what he could bring to the team and whether they would need to adjust their tactics.
In the Kyoto base, Gakuganji told them that their primary mission was to kill Itadori. Sukuna’s vessel could not be allowed to exist. Not everyone in the group seemed too keen on the idea, least of all Toudou who had to go watch his favourite idol in a live segment on TV.
The two groups put their plans together and made their way to the game zone. Let’s get it on!
What did you think?
If I’m completely honest, I felt like this episode was a bit of a bore. There were some funny moments and they mostly revolved around Gojou and his insane ideas. Otherwise, it was a lot of setup and it really didn’t need an entire episode to tell us that Gakuganji wanted Itadori dead.
Likewise, the return of Itadori probably should have carried a little more weight. I get that Gojou is mental and loves nothing more than messing with everyone, but it felt quite anticlimactic. This episode was really bloated and slow. I just want to get back to the action and some sort of development, character or storywise.
What have you learnt?
Gojou may seem to be a bit of a mystery but in character terms, I think he quite nicely fits into the chaotic good category. He means well and when push comes to shove, he delivers. However, his thought process is all over the place which makes him do crazy things like making their dead friend jump out of a box in front of other people. It gave Fushiguru and Nobara no chance to process what had happened or to react in a manner that they might have had the reveal been in private.
Of course, it’s entirely possible that Gojou knew this and did it this way because of that. He needed to bring Itadori back, but he probably didn’t want to throw the others off their game so close to the tournament. I don’t think Gojou is going to calm down any time soon. If anything, I’m expecting him to get a little more chaotic.
