Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 12) – To You, Someday
What happened?
Nanami warned Itadori not to engage with Yoshino. If there was a barrier that meant that there would be a powerful cursed spirit and it was likely to be the one that he had fought before. He knew that because he returned to the scene of the fight and found more transfigured humans. Of course, Nanami knew that Itadori wouldn’t listen to him and left the mess for another sorcerer to clean up.
Ijichi tried to tell Itadori to stand down too, but with no way to physically stop him, Itadori raced into the hall and confronted Yoshino. The fight broke out soon after as Itadori tried to reason with Yoshino. However, Yoshino’s mind had been corrupted by Mahito and his heart was crushed with the loss of his mother. Itadori didn’t know about his mother, but once he found out he told Yoshino to come to Jujutsu high and together they would make the person responsible pay.
That was the perfect moment for Mahito to reveal himself to Itadori. Yoshino tried to calm Itadori. He even tried to tell him that Mahito was not a bad guy… That was when it dawned on him. Mahito was not a good guy either. Mahito pinned Itadori to the wall and then transfigured Yoshino into a monster and left him to fight Itadori.

Itadori was furious. In a moment of desperation, he begged Sukuna to help him, saying he would agree to whatever terms he put forward. Sukuna refused and had a good laugh at Itadori and Yoshino’s expense. Mahito was surprised by the revelation, but also found it hilarious.
He didn’t get to laugh long as Itadori caught him off-guard, punching him in the face with everything he had. Mahito laughed again but then realised that he was bleeding. Was Itadori able to see the shape of his soul? Could he actually do some damage to him?
They fought and fought, exchanging blows. Mahito used his ability to morph his body to impale Itadori at every opportunity. However, Itadori managed to get close and slammed his forehead into Mahito’s face. It looked like he was winning, but Mahito vanished and then appeared behind him ready to strike.
Luckily, Nanami burst onto the scene and gave them some breathing room. He was about to pull Itadori from the fight until he realised that Itadori had made Mahito bleed. Together they would try to take him down. Then, Itadori would get a good dressing down from Nanami!

What did you think?
Amazing! I love a good fight and this entire episode was pretty much that. There is lots of exposition coming from Mahito, but given what we know about him it kind of makes sense that he would be constantly talking to himself and analyzing the situation. Also, Itadori got lucky that Mahito didn’t turn his face into a spike when he headbutted him. That would have been messy!
It wasn’t enough that they killed Nagi in the last episode but they had to remind us of it again. It helped to show Yoshino’s descent and how he had been manipulated by Mahito, but it was hard to see her again. There was one moment that had me laughing and that was when Sukuna and Mahito were both laughing at Itadori. It shouldn’t have been funny, but those laughs were infections. Sorry, Itadori!

What have you learnt?
The moment that Yoshino realised that Mahito was the villain was amazing. He was even trying to defend him and told Itadori to calm down even as Mahito pinned him to the wall. I liked that he had to say that Mahito wasn’t a bad guy to realise just how wrong he was. We got to see just how dispensible Yoshino was which makes me wonder whether there is any relevance as to his father’s identity.
It also seems unlikely that Yoshino will remain dead as he’s in the opening sitting with Itadori and all the other Jujutsu high students. Unless he comes back as a curse… There are still lots of questions to be answered, but I don’t mind waiting for a little longer, especially when the episode was as action-packed as this one was.
