Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 20) – Nonstandard
Toudou and Itadori raise their game as their attempt to exorcise Hanami, however, it’s not going to be easy, even with Toudou’s tricks. Well, it looks like we’re in for one hell of a fight, either way!
Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 20) – Nonstandard
What happened?
During the fight, Toudou recalled the time he beat up a cocky high school kid. He was only in grade school at the time. That was when he met a Jujutsu sorcerer and he knew that his life would never be the same again.
Back in the fight, Toudou told Itadori that he would have to use his ability now. He even explained to Hanami how it worked, but only after using it to impale her on her own trap. When he claps his hands he can change places with another person. He used it to change his and Itadori’s attack patterns making it almost impossible for Hanami to block or anticipate the attacks.
Of course, that wasn’t all. Just because he clapped his hands didn’t mean that he activated his skill. That bluff allowed Itadori to hit with Black Flash. Not once or twice, but three times in a row. Toudou was delighted to see his best friend progressing so quickly.
That wasn’t all. Toudou could swap the place of two other people, which we had already witnessed when he swapped Koma and Itadori earlier in the battle. On top of that, he could swap anything with cursed energy including a cursed weapon that Fushiguru might have left in the river. He swapped Itadori for the weapon and hit Hanami with it.
She was on the ropes and close to defeat, which forced her to drain the life force of the surrounding plants. The red flower on her left shoulder blossomed to reveal an eye. She was about to activate her innate domain when the veil was lifted.
Gojou floated in the sky high above the action and assessed where he was best needed. After checking out Itadori and Toudou, he was confident that they didn’t need his help. He dropped down to Gakuganji and the crazed curse user that thought he could turn Gojou into a coat stand. How he regretted that decision.
Then, as Hanami tried to escape, Gojou fired an insanely powerful attack that obliterated the land. There was no way of knowing it Hanami was dead or not, but that’s a problem for another day, especially as Mahito had collected Sukuna’s fingers from the school while everyone was distracted.
What did you think?
And would you believe it, it’s another amazing episode. The fights really are special, however, the way that Toudou dictated the fight with his skill, Boogie Woogie was awesome. On top of that, I loved how he processes information in his own dream-like world with his favourite idol. He is a really fascinating character and not just because of the interest he has shown in Itadori.
Of course, let’s not forget about Gojou. He is quite literally a monster and I can’t help but think what would happen if he decided to switch sides. His power is on such a different level it’s almost god-like. I can’t wait to see him really stretched in a battle and forced to go all out.
What have you learnt?
A while back, I think it was in episode two, I mentioned that Gojou had taken on the mentor figure in this heroic journey. That instantly raised some red flags for him, but now I’m starting to wonder if Toudou is going to take that place. It would be criminal to kill either of them, but the impact on the story would be immense.
The flashbacks to the old mentor kind of cement my thoughts here. I’m sure there’s going to be one hell of a story there too and I can’t wait to find out more. And that’s the point here. Raising questions and dropping little hints do a great job of grabbing the audience and making them want to know the answers. Best not to keep them waiting too long, but you can always give an answer and present more questions.
