My Hero Academia (Volume 2) – Rage, You Damned Nerd

Izuku Midoriya has been accepted into UA but his journey is far from over. His next class is being taught by All Might and he’s about to make Midoriya face his tormenter, Katsuki Bakugou. This could get messy!
My Hero Academia (Volume 2) – Rage, You Damned Nerd
What happened?
All Might’s class is a simulation where the students are split into groups of two. Then, one group will be assigned the role of the heroes and another group will be the villains. The heroes have to restrain the heroes or remove the nuclear weapon that they have. If the villains can remain at large for a certain amount of time, then they win. The groups are drawn at random and then drawn again to decide which team will take on which role. The first groups to take part are Midoriya and Uraraka, the heroes, and Bakugou and Iida, the villains.
Iida attempts to strategies but Bakugou races off with one thing on his mind. His sole focus is to destroy Midoriya because he feels like he’s been making a fool of him by pretending he didn’t have a quirk. When he attacks, Midoriya does his best to avoid his moves, and thankfully, he’s seen them a lot so makes a good go of it. That allows Uraraka to go after the nuke, however, Iida has prepared for her arrival. All Might watched on and several times considered stopping the fight because of how dangerous it was getting. Then, Midoriya used his powers to blow a hole in the floors above which gave Uraraka a chance to levitate the nuclear weapon away, winning them the game.
However, Midoriya and Uraraka needed to get medical help despite winning. After some recovery time and another standoff with Bakugou, they returned to class, nominated the class president, and then went on another training exercise. That’s when things took a turn. Villains appeared out of nowhere, seemingly searching for All Might. When he wasn’t there, they decided to take it out on the students!

What did you think?
It was another fantastic episode and one of the reasons I got sucked into this series. I find it impossible to not cheer Midoriya on, especially when he’s getting one over Bakugou. I still don’t like him and I’m not sure if I ever will. The way he bullies Midoriya is a big problem for me. Midoriya may well find it in his heart to forgive him, but that’s going to be tough for me. So, I will have to enjoy the moments when Midoriya wins one for the little guy, the victim, the tormented.
Anyhow, back to the reason that I found myself unable to break away from the pull of this series. The fight in the rescue centre where the students fought back against the villains was amazing, but it was the scene with Eraser Head and Nomu that did it. It was a savage fight, but even with his arms broken, Eraser Head was able to cancel Shigaraki’s quirk to save Tsuyu. This series plays to the tropes in a wonderful way too with everything getting worse and worse, and then All Might bursts through the door and yells “I AM HERE!” Such a brilliantly simple catchphrase. I might have to speed up the rate with which I read this series as seven months between volumes is a little too long…
