My Hero Academia (Episode 70) – GO!!

My Hero Academia 4 Title

Mirio and Midoriya are forced to wait while the professional heroes track down a lead on Eri’s location and it’s killing them. Luckily, they won’t have to wait for long as Nighteye may have a lead!

What did you watch?

I’ve been saying about how this season is building towards a moment and once it gets there, we’re all going to be exhausted once it does… Well, episode 70 of My Hero Academia is the beginning of that moment. I’ve no idea how many more episodes it will take up, but I think it’s safe to say it’ll be quite a few and I can’t wait. Right, let’s dive straight in, and don’t forget, there will be spoilers.

What happened?

The UA students were sent back to school while the pro-heroes followed up on their leads and attempted to pinpoint Eri’s location. Once they had done that, Nighteye was set to use his powers to further zoom in on her location. It had been three days and in that time, Midiroya was starting to fall apart. They were told not to discuss the case with anyone else and it was eating them all alive. Midoriya broke down over lunch and started to cry. Mirio, however, had changed from his positive and fun-loving persona to a man plagued by doubts. Finally, they got the call. The mission was on!

Everyone returned to the Nighteye Agency and awaited the news. After numerous leads had turned up nothing, Nighteye happened across one of the Shie Hassaikai goons entering a toy shop. When he started to ask about toys popular with girls, Nighteye stepped in and offered him some assistance. Of course, it was a ploy to use his quirk, which revealed the true location of Eri. She was beneath the headquarters in a maze of tunnels and it was time to rescue her!

What did you think?

I am so excited, I’m not sure what I’m going to do with myself until next Saturday! This episode was intense. For the first half, we saw Midoriya and Mirio as the waited for the call to the make amends for letting Overhaul take Eri away in the first place. It’s safe to say, they weren’t taking it well. Both had withdrawn and were overcome with guilt and anxiety. You could absolutely feel it and the music that they chose to accompany this section just tipped the balance. Hell, I was starting to feel anxious. Then, we got to the moment, that I’ve been patiently waiting for – the raid on Shie Hassaikai’s headquarters!

What was your favourite moment?

I loved the way we saw the heroes and the police outside of Shie Hassaikai’s headquarters ready to begin the raid. The leading officer went over the situation and reminded people of their roles. Rock Lock, obviously, felt this was overkill and just wanted to get on with things. Of course, Fat Gum was more tolerant and reminded Rock Lock that there was a procedure to follow. The lead officer went to ring the buzzer so that he could read the warrant, but before he could a colossal villain burst through the gate and started going nuts. This is how you start what will be the most intense sequence of events in My Hero Academia. This is where it all begins. I hope you’re all ready!

My Hero Academia 4 Episode 70 Rikiya Katsukame

What was your least favourite moment?

It was brutal watching Midoriya tearing up over his lunch after Ida asked him if he’d like to talk, mirroring the time Midoriya had done the same for him when Ida was hunting down Stain. Unfortunately, this time Midoriya couldn’t talk. The case was top-secret and it was killing him having to bottle everything up. Then, he just couldn’t hold it in any longer and started to cry. He apologised and said that heroes shouldn’t cry. Todoroki then pitched in with a great moment. He said that he thought heroes cried when they needed to cry and saw nothing wrong with it. They then offered Midoriya some of their food. It was sad seeing Midoriya get to that point, but I was amazed by his friends’ support.

Who was your favourite character?

Nighteye is pretty creepy. He is tall and gangly, makes odd stances, and is cursed by unusual camera angles. There’s actually something about him that reminds me of John Cleese and while that’s not entirely why Nighteye is my favourite character of the episode, it certainly helped. It was hilarious the way he snuck up on the goon trying to buy toys for Eri and was able to even offer some advice on the latest magic girl craze. Is this one of Nighteye’s secret guilty pleasures? Who knows, but it would make sense and it definitely made me laugh.

My Hero Academia 4 Episode 70 Night Eye with Toy

Who was your least favourite character?

I got to hand it to the Shie Hassaikai goon buying the girl’s toys for being a complete moron. It’s like a bunch of stoners buying bags of fertilizer and heat lamps. We all know what you’re up to, so yakuza thug buying toys for little girls and not knowing anything about them was a dead give-away that you have a little girl that you shouldn’t have. If he’d just walked in, looked around, and picked up something, it probably wouldn’t have been nearly as suspicious. Even when Nighteye announced the finding, one of the heroes was quick to point out that maybe that was the goons thing and who were they to judge. He definitely gave himself away.

Would you like some more?

Try and stop me. The rest of this arc is going to be frantic and unrelenting. I don’t think there’s even going to be a moment to breathe during the next few to several episodes. It’s just going to be epic action and unbelievable fights. I’ve been saying it for a while, but this is where this season becomes the best one. Maybe not in terms of the emotional impact of season one, but for the action junkies, this is going to be it. It’s times like this that I wish I had a time machine so that I could jump to the end of the season, binge the lot, and then come back.

  1. Hmmmm. I get the impression you think good things might be coming down the pike!

Seriously, the build up in this episode was great. I’m worried for the health and safety of almost every hero in this episode.

    • Waiting for the next episode is going to be like Deku waiting for the call to rescue Eri. If someone isn’t breaking down in tears I’ll be surprised. We’ve got some good stuff coming!
