My Hero Academia (Episode 81) – School Festival
The school festival is coming up and Aizawa has tasked Class 1A with coming up with something to lift the spirits of the other programs as this is their festival, the way the sports festival was their’s.
What happened?
After some weird and wonderful ideas from all of the class, Iida and Yaoyorozu narrow them down to ones that aren’t too weird. Of course, Bakugo’s idea of a deathmatch gets shelved. They’re struggling to narrow it down with a maid cafe ironically seeming like one of the front runners. Eventually, the answer comes from the least likely source. Todoroki doesn’t even know what it’s called and has to search on YouTube to show everyone what he’s thinking. That’s right, Class 1A is going to perform music and dance…
Midoriya and Mirio finally get to visit Eri in hospital, with Aizawa’s supervision, of course, and she is still struggling to break free from Overhaul’s grip. Midoriya decides its a good idea to invite Eri to the school festival and Aizawa agrees to talk to the principal. Meanwhile, a criminal that goes by the name Gentle has been committing crimes and posting videos of them online. His views are dropping and he’s planning on something big to win them back.
What was your favourite element?
Aizawa was my favourite thing in this episode. I loved how he comes into the class, climbs into a sleeping bag, zips himself up, and goes to sleep. But all the while, he’s listening to what ideas the group comes up with. Then, when it’s time to go to their next class, he threatens to hold a live lecture if they don’t decide on something. You can always count on Aizawa to keep things weird, even in a school of potential heroes!
What have you learnt?
My first thoughts are that I’m not into this whole making a band and school festival arc. Hopefully, I’m wrong, but I don’t have much in the way of hope for Gentle and La Brava being able to make it interesting. He’s certainly no Overhaul and that arc was sadly a little disappointing. I feel like this is another of those moments where I could criticize the pacing of this season, but that would be like calling the fire brigade once the house has burnt to the ground. There have been moments in this season that I have enjoyed, but they’ve been few and far between, and often interrupted by flashbacks. These are all things that I will be desperately trying not to do in any of my stories.

Disapointment overall with this season seems to be fairly widespread…
Yeah and it’s such a shame, because I loved the first three seasons. It’s shocking to see how quickly a series can fall. I’m really struggling to get excited to watch any more.
