Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Episode 55) – The Adults’ Way of Life
What happened?
Hohenheim tries to reason with Father, asking him why he separated himself to create the homunculi. However, Father is not in a talkative mood and unleashes a barrage of attacks. Eventually, Hohenheim says something that causes Father to stop and think. He believes that Hohenheim desperately wanted a family because he was jealous of the humans. Father claims that he wants to go bigger, transcending all life.
Olivier and Alex continue to fight Sloth and the mannequins, although Sloth doesn’t seem to want to stay down. Some of the soldiers attempt to slow down Sloth to allow the Armstrongs to flee, however, Alex refuses to back down. That’s when an enormous stone fist sends Sloth flying.
Izumi Curtis steps out and congratulates Alex for his valour, she then tosses Sloth to her husband Sig who gives him a beating. Alex and Sig instantly hit it off and combine their muscles to finally end Sloth’s attacks. Now, they just have to take care of the mannequins.
Not long after, they announce that they have captured Central Command and the Briggs soldiers begin to celebrate. It may be a little too soon for that though as King Bradley has returned from the dead to bring the fight to the Briggs soldiers.

What did you think?
So, the instant bromance that was Alex and Sig was hilarious, and almost as funny as Alex and Olivier’s faces when Izumi entered the scene. Of course, then the idea that Izumi is a sacrifice candidate resurfaced and that she plans on getting far away. We don’t know how that works and whether just being within the vicinity will be enough or whether they need to be somewhere specific. I would have thought there would be a specific nature to it given the points on the transmutation circles.
Obviously, King Bradly was going to return. They didn’t find his body, so it was just a matter of time. Knowing that, I spotted him well before he announced his return. When Alphonse and Heinkel were lifting their car so that the wheel could get free, we saw a pair of legs in blue army pants walk by holding an unsheathed sword. As soon as I saw that, I knew he was back.

What have you learnt?
It can get tiring and quite annoying if certain people keep avoiding death. By that, I’m generally referring to the villains that just won’t stay down. However, this series gave us a reason to not expect them to stay down. Because of that, I don’t think I’ve once felt like a villain had overstayed their welcome and King Bradley returning now is a great move. Things are about to get crazy.
On top of that, we’ve obviously got a lot more to come from the fight between Hohenheim and Father. I feel like we may even get a flashback to show us how Father ended up this way. And that reminds me that we should expect Greed to show up soon too. He has no love for Bradley so that could be an interesting fight, especially as Greed is now in Ling’s body. I’m hoping for a rematch.
