Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Episode 45) – The Promised Day
What happened?
Greed and Wrath fight in his living room as King Bradley’s wife tries to protect Selim. The battle is intense with swords slicing and bodies flying. Wrath thinks that he has an opening and goes for the kill, however, Greed is able to shield his neck just in time. He escapes out the window and disappears into the night.
Olivier Armstrong visits her family and demands that her father retires and hands control of the family to her. He had planned on giving it to Alex, but when he shows up, he lets them decide by fighting for it while he heads off with his other family members. A nice long vacation is in order. Olivier defeats Alex, but he guesses it was her intent to move her family away so they would be safe. She tells him to get out.
Edward arrives at the house where they had detained Gluttony before he ate Envy, Ling, and him. He’s expecting to find Alphonse there, but he’s nowhere to be seen. Just then, someone else staggers into the house. It’s Ling or is it Greed. He’s hungry. It’s definitely Ling. Ling passes on a message about the Day of Reckoning when Father will put his plan into motion. Greed regains control and leaves, but not before Edward asks him to join them. He laughs, but then Edward catches up with him and says he’ll join Greed.
The news of the Day of Reckoning spreads across the country, moving between people until it arrives in Mustang’s hand. The North and the East are ready. It looks like a full revolution is about to begin, but will it be too late?
What did you think?
Well, this was pretty exciting. The fight between Greed and Wrath was excellent although I was a little disappointed that it didn’t go further. I was almost expecting someone to die. I would have been happy for Pride to get involved too, but he was too busy pretending to be Selim. Anyhow, it was fun and as I predicted it gave Ling a chance to regain control of his body, even if it wasn’t for very long.
I really liked the idea of Edward joining Greed. It furthers the idea that everyone is now on their own journey. Hopefully, they’ll all come back stronger from their experiences, although I don’t know exactly how much time they’ll have to learn anything. Things are moving now and it’s only going to get more and more intense.
What have you learnt?
It looks like Greed is stronger in Ling’s body than he was before. Wrath certainly didn’t have it as easy as last time they fought. One way or another that is another homunculus out of action for Father. Mei Chang running back to Central may give Envy a chance to recover, but I also think she could end up being incredibly important to the final battle.
I am a little disappointed in the development of Alex Louis Armstrong’s character. He was this formidable wall of muscles with an iron will, but he’s kind of been relegated to a whiny soft character. Maybe, it’s just that his sister brings out all of his insecurities because she really is cold as ice! I am, however, really excited to see everyone fight back against Central and the homunculi.
