The clans have merged, creating four new parties as they target the dungeons in search of medals. They almost make it look too easy, but then the third day is coming and all they have to do is survive… if they can!

What happened?

Sally shared the information she gathered about possible dungeons with the other players. They split into four groups of four, leaving the remaining few behind to guard the base. The first group to reach a dungeon was Dread, Markus, May and Yui. Dread brought his god-like speed to the attack while May and Yui blasted the boss with their sheer power. Markus kept them all safe and offered support. The boss didn’t even have a chance.

Things went the same for the next group, consisting of Payne, Kanade, Iz, and Misery. Kuromu, Kasumi, Shin, and Drag smashed through their boss too. After each one, they moved on to the next one. The final group, however, was under constant attack from swarms of demons. Maple spotted the entrance and flew Sally, Mii, and Frederica inside. It was a flight they’ll not soon forget. Once inside, they came across the boss who was terrifying. Frederica even called it Maple 2!

All of its attacks were piercing – Maples one weakness. However, thanks to their teamwork, they managed to defeat it and collect another medal. After a successful day’s work, they returned to the base to celebrate, but their celebrations were short-lived as the third and final day began. Portals opened up all across the map. Monsters identical to the one Maple’s team fought swarmed out. There would be no hiding from this battle. They would have to take it head-on!

What did you think?

I need to play this game. I don’t know if we need it as a species, but please can someone develop a full-dive MMORPG system? This episode was great. Even though most of the battles were fairly short-lived, they were amazing. They know just how to pump up the mood. It reminds me of the boss fights in games like Zelda. The right tune makes everything that much more intense. Of course, we knew no one was going to die, but I almost thought they might take Maple out for a fraction of a second. Of course, the map is now swarming with her worst nightmare.

There’s just one more episode and then we’ll be back to a world where there is no more new BOFURI. I know I was calling for a third season after the second episode of this season and nothing has changed. This show needs to continue. I love my dark fantasy shows, but this series has been a wonderful distraction from all the crazy stuff that goes on in the real world. It just goes to show that you can have a wildly entertaining series without serious stakes and lots of character development. Sometimes, all you need is fun!
