Fire Force (Episode 46) – Plot for Extinction

What happened?

Giovanni continues to taunt Shinra as he attempts to get him to join them. He even brings up Sho who is currently one of Haumea’s dolls. That infuriates Shinra so much that he increases his speed to faster than light speed without an Adolla blessing. He kicks Giovanni around with ease.

Ritsu’s giant Infernal bomb is about to blow and the Eighth are missing a crucial piece of the solution – Maki. Luckily, Vulcan has been keeping her up to date with a hidden communicator and has arranged for her to join them. Takigi is furious that she is there, especially as she is a girl!!!

However, she’ll need to work with Takigi as he has knowledge of the layout of the Nether. Together, they guide the fire down to the bare earth where it is extinguished. Maki saved all of Tokyo and the Fire Soldiers in the Nether. Surely now, Takigi has to acknowledge how strong Maki is.

Giovanni learns that he was able to link with Shinra which means his experiments have been successful. There may be a chance for him to ascend to Adolla. However, Arthur has other ideas… or rather, the lack of ideas. He attacks without even thinking about it and strikes down Giovanni. Unfortunately, he is harder to kill than a cockroach and just as tenacious. Giovanni escaped, but Maki was once again back with the Eighth, where she belongs.

This arc started off with so much energy. All they had to do was give us some incredible fights which they did for a short while. However, it felt like this trip to the Nether was over way too soon and other than Juggernaut’s fight, it was fairly low-key. Also, it looks like your favourite guy is about to become more involved once more. Yomu, how was this Nether arc for you and how excited are you to see Konro again?

Yomu Profile

You’ve summed it up well, aside from Juggernaut’s fight, it doesn’t feel like all that much has happened in the Nether. Dr. Giovanni ended up running away, as ominous villains often do, and the whole “shaped explosive” part of the White Clad’s plan was both revealed and dealt with almost immediately. Even Maki returning felt odd, as she just sort of appeared exactly when she was needed.

The whole ‘Adolla Link with people who are not pillars’ is an interesting idea. I hadn’t ever thought anything of it when it did happen last season, and even now I’m not exactly sure where they’re trying to go with this. As for Konro specifically, well, maybe we’ll get to see Benimaru again also if we revisit Fire Force Company 7. We hadn’t seen anything from him since the break-in, have we?

Lynn Profile

Benimaru is always entertaining so that’s a big bonus. I said that the Eighth badge that Maki had might be a listening device, but even I wasn’t expecting it to be a two radio. It was a rather opportune time to show up too. At least, she got to show her brother that he’s a moron for thinking she’s weak.

The best moment in the episode had to be Arthur going full kill mode without thinking about it. That was hilarious, but equally frustrating the Giovanni scurries off again. He’s creepy as hell and should be far more formidable than he is. I’d like to see him go all out for once.

Yomu Profile

That Giovanni fight could have been something amazing, considering both Shinra and Arthur were teamed up against him. But nothing much happened there. Shinra going all-out after hearing about Sho was certainly cool and it almost felt like Shinra had “levelled up”, but ultimately it seemed to have no effect on Giovanni, making it kind of pointless.

Speaking of Sho, what are your thoughts on that? I thought he was willingly collaborating with the White Clad, but here we see that he has been turned into a puppet by Haumea…

Lynn Profile

Sho almost turned at the end of season one if I recall correctly, so they are probably going through the brainwashing process again. He was recruited as a baby so he’s been indoctrinated since birth like Haumea. The difference between the two is his doubts which are probably because of Shinra. I’m assuming Haumea doesn’t have anyone trying to recover her which is why she’s completely unhinged.

It’s definitely time for some proper levelling up then since that one from Shinra didn’t do anything. There’s obviously room to grow.

Yomu Profile

It feels like the more we move forward, the further away the end becomes. I can’t imagine anything all that important happening in these last few episodes, aside from perhaps a few loose ends tied up.

Still, any predictions?

Lynn Profile

Yeah, that’s how I feel. We’ve been teased with some answers but nothing concrete.

If they’re going to see Benimaru maybe he’ll put them through some more training. He seems to be the wise old-young master.

Yomu Profile

Hopefully, we see something to do with Benimaru / Joker / Burns. They all had that big moment during the assault on the Church and we’ve seen nothing from them since.

Lynn Profile

I would be surprised to see anything significant happen, but it’s not impossible. Hopefully, we can end on a high, leaving us excited for season three.
