Modinaram had been defeated. Diablo and the others returned to their rooms for some well deserved rest, however, Rem went to see Celestine and report on her situation. However, Diablo’s rest was soon disturbed in the most shocking way!

What happened?
Everyone cheered and celebrated the victory of Modinaram, however, some were a little weary of Diablo. That was fair, since he just destroyed the Demon Overlord without appearing to break a sweat. Of course, there was no time to enjoy their victory as there was still an army of Fallen outside the city. However, they didn’t advance. They simply held their position. Laminitus ordered the soldiers to begin rebuilding the walls. Until they were repaired and Celestine’s tower was restored the city would be vulnerable to attack. Then Sylvie showed up to check on things. After going over some of the events, she took Rem to report to Celestine.
Diablo took the others back to their inn and was surprised to find a large crowd of people outside. Apparently, many of the citizens were keen to thank Diablo personally. Luckily, Mei was waiting for them. She took them down an alleyway and showed them to the secret Peace of Mind Inn that she kept for occasions just like this. She gave them all rooms and then told Diablo that he could stay free of charge. Then, she thanked him for saving the city with a kiss! After she had gone, Diablo lay down to rest. Unfortunately, his sleep was interrupted by Boris, the city guard. He revealed that Rem had attacked Celestine and then fled when her attack missed.
Diablo was shocked by the news, but after a couple of cleverly thought out questions, he instantly worked out what had happened. Apparently, Rem had attacked with elemental magic, but she use summoning magic. Diablo raced to Rem’s last known location and found her on the city wall. She tried to explain things, but Diablo reassured her since he already knew. Modinaram had taken up the space inside of Rem that Krebskulm had once resided in. Rem tried to kill herself to save everyone from Modinaram, but Diablo ordered her to stop. He would defeat Modinaram the old fashioned way. Then, Modinarm, who had fully taken over Rem’s body, attacked the Fallen army, consuming every last one of them. When he was done, Modinarm had created the Demon Lord’s Castle. Diablo would have to go inside and face him if he was to save Rem.
What did you think?
It was another fantastic volume. I loved every moment. As soon as Rem started to look a little off, I knew that Modinaram had moved inside of her, and then when she went to see Celestine with Sylvie, it was obvious that something would happen. I was relieved that Rem managed to stop Modinaram’s attempt to kill Celestine, but seeing Rem about to give up her life to save everyone else was hard to watch. I was so glad when Diablo ordered her to stop. Another win for the enslavement collars. I’m glad that they haven’t just been an initial gimmick.
The fight between Diablo and Modinaram (in Rem’s body) was excellent and I loved how Diablo was prepared to pull out all of the weird items that he had collected during the game. Modinaram obviously had no idea who he was facing despite sourcing as much information from Rem as possible. Then, when things got insane, Klem was there to make Diablo return to the city. It’s handy having a Demon Lord on your side, although I had to laugh when Sylvie basically called out Diablo’s Demon Lord lie.
The Demon Lord Castle was a bizarrely brilliant thing to happen. We learned that Modinaram will probably be stronger inside and if Diablo wants to rescue Rem, he will have to go in and fight. Of course, they could wait until tomorrow for the castle to vanish, but by then it would have destroyed the city as it is very slowly moving forward. Also, it’s worth noting the Eulerex flew away before Modinaram could devour him. I can’t help but wonder if he’s going to show up again at some point. Well, I am all caught up once more and now have to wait until December 2025 for the next volume. Waiting is no fun!
