Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II (Episode 0) – Past & Future

Bell and Hestia recap the events of season one and remind us just what a great couple of characters they are, and how precious their relationship is.
What did you watch?
This was episode 0 of the then much anticipated second season of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. I only saw the first season a couple of months before and ever since I had been desperately waiting for more. Admittedly, I had read nine volumes of the manga before watching the anime, so I was already excited then. Now, I’m just about to lose my mind. That could be the explanation for me reviewing a recap episode… that and it was still awesome watching several of the best bits again. If you’ve not seen season one or this episode, be warned there will be spoilers.

What happened?
Bell and Hestia talk us through the events of season one, commenting on Wallenwhatsit and the attention Bell gets from the ladies. The chemistry between the two characters is excellent, even when it’s just there voices talking over what we’ve already seen. We follow Bell as he goes from a complete novice, having to be saved from a Minotaur by Aiz Wallenstein, to becoming the hero of level 18 when he defeats the level boss brought forward by the presence of the gods in the dungeon.
It gives us a recap on the world and how the Familias work. We get to see how Bell met Lili and Welf. There’s enough information in there that someone new to the series could pick it up, but I would definitely recommend watching it in its full. It’s a great story and one of the best shows that I have watched.

What did you think?
I think I may have already answered that, but I’ll expand on it. This recap is great. It reminded me of the My Hero Academia episode that recapped season one. Sure, it didn’t have everything, but it did more than enough to hit you with loads of emotions and get you pumped for more. Luckily then, we will get more as of next week. That gives us more than enough time to rewatch season one… haha. You know you want to!

What was your favourite moment?
When I watched season one, I had read the manga up to the equivalent of episode 12 of the anime, leaving only episode 13 where I had no idea what was going to happen. That, of course, was my favourite moment, but watching the recap it was when Bell fought the Minotaur and won, levelling up in the process. That said, the fights are intense, but it’s the characters that make the series.

What was your least favourite moment?
It’s hard watching Hestia continue to do everything for Bell, but not really get the affection returned. Sure, he loves her as his goddess, but not in the same way he feels for Aiz Wallenstein, who appeared even more wooden and emotionless in the recap. Maybe, this will be resolved in the new season.

Who was your favourite character?
Bell is my favourite character and I also love Lili, Ryu and Welf, but I think Hestia is the one character that has really stuck with me since watching the first series and listening to her commentary in the recap episode confirmed it. She is a great character who does everything for her Familia (Bell) and is far more level headed and compassionate than many would give her credit.

Who was your least favourite character?
From the recap alone, they really seemed to go out of their way to show Aiz as being quite cold. I don’t know if that was on purpose, but I didn’t remember her being quite that bad. Sure, she was quiet and a little reserved, but they seemed to push it further. My gut tells me that it will be important for the new season, so that’s something to keep an eye on.

Would you like some more?
I am so pumped for the new season and watching this episode reminded me why. Sure, you could skip this as there’s nothing new, except for the discussion between Bell and Hestia, which in my book is more than reason enough. Anyhow, new season, next week. Be there!

I am so excited to jump into the new season though you are right in that it is really tempting right now to go and binge watch season one again… wonder if I can find the time this week.
The recap episode was good, but, yeah, part of me wants to do it again in preparation. You’ve read much further than I have too, so you must have an idea of what’s coming.
Yes, and I am super excited.
I’ll take that as justification to get more excited.
