Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II (OVA) – Is It Wrong to Go Searching For Herbs on a Deserted Island?
What happened?
Former members of the Apollo Familia, Cassandra Ilion and Daphne Rauros were working as adventurers for the Miach Familia and were keen to take on another job, however, they soon discovered that Miach had rewarded the Hestia Familia with a trip to a deserted island. He even paid them double and upfront, so it’s basically a glorified holiday.
Bell is determined to get on with the mission, but Hestia and Liliruca want to go swimming. They are at the beach after all!! However, Bell forgot his swimwear and so the girls decide to have a bikini contest to decide who gets to spend the day with Bell. Of course, Bell is the chief judge and bizarrely Ryuu Lion will accompany him.
Even stranger is when Bell is forced to decide and Aiz Wallenstein appears although she has no memories of anything other than her name. She also has a large bump on her head. They decide that in order to return Aiz to normal they need to find the Everything Flower which can heal any ailment. However, that is easier said than done and soon everyone but Bell has lost their memories.

What did you think?
This OVA had some funny moments, however, it will probably be most remembered as being completely surreal. In the end, the entire episode ended up being a vision that Cassandra had of what might happen on the island, however, she’s been asleep for a week and Bell is just about to get home. It was weird and really quite trippy, but then I think they were going for that as it felt like a dream.
And would you believe it, we know I’m a big fan of hot spring episodes, but did you know I also enjoy beach episodes? I know, they are nothing like one another but still give me the same warm feeling all over. The main focus of this episode was Hestia’s makeshift bikini, which was very much like what happened in the first OVA. It was funny, but as it was a dream there really wasn’t much of a conclusion which kind of ruined the ending.

What have you learnt?
OVAs generally seem to have more fan service than the regular episodes of a series and that shouldn’t come as any sort of a surprise. Of course, there’s lots of fan service. The fact that OVAs exist is purely for fan service. I don’t mean in the ecchi sense of things, however, rather in the sense that these were made for the fans and generally don’t impact the story. I like that it gives the story the chance to do something a bit different and not alter the overall flow.
I mentioned in the last OVA that I see these as the bonus short stories that you would create to accompany a series. That still stands and it’s definitely something I intend to plan into my series. I also think it’s a fun exercise for the author to be able to let loose and have their characters do things that they wouldn’t normally have time for in the main story. Anyhow, here’s Hestia eating a hot dog…
