What happened?
Karyl was a little slow in coming down for breakfast which upset Pecorine. The thought of that good food going to waste led her to believe that something horrible must have happened to Karyl. Why else would someone waste food?! Of course, Karyl just wanted a lie-in, but that was ruined when Pecorine jumped through her bedroom window and ripped Karyl’s favourite stuffed toy. Yuuki, Kokkoro, and Pecorine headed into town to find replacement materials. With the search going nowhere, they split up. It wasn’t long before Yuuki came face to face with a Shadow and attempted to stop it, but it was too strong. Luckily a winged angel appeared and sliced it in two. She claimed to be Yuuki’s sister, but he had no memory of her… obviously.

What did you think?
This was probably one of my least favourite episodes, but it was still fun and made lots of references to the events that had happened prior. There was the food critic and his guild, and then there was the Destroyer that had taken a shine to Yuuki and held him captive at their hospital/guild house. The return of the Shadows was nice and I loved how creepy it was as it jumped from place to place, moving towards Yuuki. Karyl’s visit to the Queen was fairly creepy too. I think we’re going to get some awesome action in the final two episodes.

What have you learnt?
While this series hasn’t done too much to develop all of the characters, which would be hard anyhow as there are so many of them, it’s done just about enough to make them memorable and by dropping them into the various episodes, it keeps them in our mind and relevant. Also, I like that there appears to be something fairly sinister going on in the background, although the main vibe of this series is definitely wholesome fun and good food. I am loving the setting and world-building, as simple as it is. They’ve kept somethings remarkably straightforward while other parts of the story are steeped in mystery. It’s an interesting balance.
