Princess Connect! Re: Dive (Episode 6) – Melody of Departure ~Aromatic Spices under the Starry Sky~

Karyl made it back from the Twilight Caravan and went to bed. The next day, Pecorine announced their first quest as a guild and it involves spices. Should be a nice easy quest to start things off… shouldn’t it?
Princess Connect! Re: Dive (Episode 6) – Melody of Departure ~Aromatic Spices under the Starry Sky~
What happened?
The Gourmet Guild set off on their first quest together to help pick spices. They’ll get a daily wage and a load of spice too! Sounds like an ideal start for them. It’s a bit of a trek, but that doesn’t seem to bother them and it’ll give them the chance to hunt and forage to make their dinner. Everything was good, but Pecorine found some fruits and shared them with the others. They were very ripe… maybe too ripe! Kokkoro stopped herself from eating one just in time to see the others turn into blithering drunks. The next day, after Yuuki had been stolen by a giant werewolf, they met another girl who was also headed on the same quest. It turns out that another guild is on their way too, but they encounter some strange shadowy figures in the woods!

What did you think?
I have to say that I am loving the dry humour in this series. The whole time Kokkoro was watching the others sleep, I was waiting for the wolves to drag Yuuki off the screen and try to run off with him again. It sadly wasn’t to be, but then in the morning, they turn in Yuuki’s direction to find him in the mouth of a giant werewolf. Excellent! Then, you had the sleeping girl floating into a bell tower before coming crashing down to earth. It’s crazy, but I’m loving it.
There was another thing to talk about in this episode and that is how dark it got towards the end. The shadow clones were pretty uninspiring until we had the moment where the flying, sleeping girl was telling the Gourmet Guild about her sister as we watch the shadow clone close in on her. There was even a moment when they were walking to the village and Yuuki looked at the mysterious structure floating in the sky. There appeared to be some sort of recollection in his eyes. I feel like this series is going to be more than cute girls cooking in a fantasy world.

What have you learnt?
It was another excellent episode and I love the way it’s able to switch the tone from dark, dry comedy to creepy and mysterious at the drop of a hat. Admittedly, the fact that the humour is quite dry probably helps with the transition. It’s also a good thing that I particularly enjoy that type of comedy. This series had a little bit of a dip in performance with episode 4, but I can’t fault the others. It looks good and is very funny, plus it has some sinister vibes running throughout. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes and what happens to the Elizabeth Park guild!
