Heaven’s Lost Property (Episode 15) – Forte: You Strip, Too! The Return of the Full-frontal Hero
What happened?
Tomoki wakes from another dream where the winged girl warned him that another angel was coming. That’s going to have to wait though as Nymph walks in to find Ikaros straddling Tomoki. She tells her to get off and him to get up before whipping off his sheet. However, neither of them is prepared for what they find. Then, just as Tomoki tries to explain himself, he hears Sohara coming up the stairs. If she sees him like this he’s a dead man.
At school, Tomoki goes to the New World Discovery Club and tells them that he’s having the dreams with the angel once more and he doesn’t know why. Nymph has a helpful idea and suggests they play the dive game. It was all the rage in the Synapse, but she can’t talk about that. What she can tell them, however, is that they are able to enter Tomoki’s dream and see what happened. Sounds like a perfect idea, only Ikaros isn’t keen.
They enter the dream but soon discover that it isn’t Tomoki’s dream at all as they are chased by giant pterodactyls and rolling boulders. No, this is Sugata’s dream. Nymph manages to pull them out of the dream before anyone gets hurt and sets it back up. This time it’ll be Tomoki’s dream, for sure.
It isn’t. They find themselves in the middle of a battlefield with bullets flying. Mikako leaps out from behind cover and charges the soldiers, gunning them all down before blowing up a helicopter with a bazooka. This is most definitely Mikako’s dream.
This time they jump straight to another dream, but this isn’t Tomoki’s either. Sohara watches in horror as they discover what she dreamed about last night. Let’s just say it’s one of “those” dreams and it’s quite revealing. Finally, they have just one more dream to enter and it has to be Tomoki’s, especially after Nymph removed the protection on it…
What did you think?
This was a great way to kick off the second season. It quickly reintroduced you to all the main characters and gave a little tease of things to come. Then, with the dreams, we got several laughs and finally something a little more mysterious. They managed to get a good mix of laughs and the serious side of the story, which only Sugata seems to be worried about.
I think my favourite moment in this episode was Sohara’s dream, even if she won’t admit it’s hers. They arrive outside of a house that looks a lot like Tomoki’s, but everything else appears to have been drawn by a child. Tomoki, Sugata, and Mikako peer in through a window to find Sohara in the shower with Tomoki.
Real Sohara flips out and bashes them both over the head, still insisting that it’s not her dream. Then a parade of Soharas and Tomokis dance past in various sexy outfits, prompting Sohara to send Tomoki and Sugata flying into the distance. It was so wrong and so very funny.
However, I also loved the stuff with Tomoki’s dream and how Sugata is constantly analysing and testing things. He’s got a good grip on what’s happening and knows full well that Ikaros is hiding things. Seeing him putting it all together was amazing, but of course, he was then interrupted by the appearance of another Angeloid!
What have you learnt?
One of the things that constantly amazed me with this series is how we can go from Sohara and Tomoki in bondage to a mysterious world that is sinister and menacing in a matter of seconds and it doesn’t feel out of place. As much as I find the chibi style of things a little too much, it does help to define those differences. For example, you know it’s a relatively serious moment when Tomoki is drawn normally.
It’s also interesting that you can have the main characters of Tomoki and Sohara just kind of bumbling along while Sugata is busy trying to solve a mystery. It makes Sugata that much more interesting and had this been a slightly different series, he might have been the main character. Yet somehow, it works like this and it keeps it interesting. It just goes to show that side characters should have just as much agency as anyone, more in this case.
